Our Mission

ScanaBug exists to answer one of the most common questions people have: "What is this bug?" We built a free, accurate, and instant identification tool powered by AI so that anyone — regardless of their knowledge of entomology — can get a reliable answer in under 10 seconds.

How It Works

Our AI analyzes uploaded photos using the same morphological features a trained entomologist uses in the field: leg count, wing structure, antennae type, body segmentation, and colour patterns. It cross-references these against a database of over 10,000 insect and spider species to return a species-level identification.

Danger classifications are based on medical and veterinary entomology literature. Every species result is cross-referenced against the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).
