Nothing on ScanaBug, including the Bug Bite Identifier, the Spider Identifier, the Insect Identifier and all guides, diagnoses, treats or prevents any medical condition. Our Bug Bite Identifier compares your photo or the symptoms you describe with common bite patterns and suggests possible causes. These are general suggestions only. A photo cannot reliably show what caused a bite or sting, or how your body will react, and the tool cannot diagnose a skin reaction or confirm what bit you.
Always ask a doctor, nurse or pharmacist about a bite, sting or other health concern. Never delay or ignore medical advice because of something you read on this site.
Get emergency help immediately if you or someone else has any of the following after a bite or sting:
- Trouble breathing or wheezing
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
- Hives or a rash spreading quickly over the body
- Dizziness, fainting or a racing heartbeat
- Fever, severe pain, spreading redness, or a wound that is getting worse
Call your local emergency number. In the United States you can also call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222. Do not spend that time on a website.
Where our health information comes from
Health information on ScanaBug is based on public health sources such as the CDC and the NHS, and is linked at the end of each guide. It is general information, not advice for your situation.
Not pest control advice
ScanaBug does not inspect properties, treat infestations or recommend pest control companies. Prevention tips are general. Pesticide rules differ by location, so read product labels and follow local regulations. For an active infestation, structural pests such as termites, or any spider you think may be medically significant, contact a licensed pest professional.
The identifier gives suggestions, not answers
The identifier uses AI image recognition. It returns a likely match and a general safety label, and it can be wrong. Results can be affected by photo quality, lighting, crushed or partial specimens, larvae and nymphs that look alike, species that need a microscope to tell apart, and regional differences. Accuracy and updates
Taxonomy and official health guidance change. We date our guides and update them when evidence changes, but we do not promise that every page reflects the latest position. If you spot an error, tell us at support@scanabug.com.
